Preview tours of the new Brooklands Aircraft Factory and Flight Shed will take place on October 15. The new exhibitions are due to open in early November.
Tours will begin in the Flight Shed which houses a Harrier and the museum’s live aircraft, including a Hawker Hurricane currently under restoration. Although some of the displays will still be under construction, visitors will then be taken across the bridge onto the mezzanine floor of the new Aircraft Factory exhibition in the restored and relocated Bellman Hangar. Dominating this area will be a Hawker P.1127 that has been raised above the mezzanine and looms out over the Aircraft Factory floor. From this upper level, visitors will look down on the Vickers Wellington along with assembly lines and major sections of aircraft in various stages of manufacture.
Live action on the day includes visiting helicopters and light aircraft arriving on the airstrip at Mercedes-Benz World opposite the museum entrance, where visitors will be able to inspect them and chat to the pilots. At 12 noon and again at 14:15 on the museum site itself, the newly restored finishing straight of the original race track will be put to full use as selected Brooklands aircraft give engine demonstrations. These include the Sopwith Camel and Vickers Vimy (running for the first time in two years) along with the Demoiselle, Sports White and Baby White.
Entrance fees are as follows: Adults £11; Seniors £10; Children (5-16 yrs) £6.00; Children Under 5 FREE; Family ticket (2 adults and up to 3 children), £30.
