Concorde stars at Aerospace Bristol gala dinner

A one-off gala dinner was held last week at Aerospace Bristol for 510 Concorde fans.

Organised by Boundless, the evening began with a drinks reception and a private viewing inside the plane before guests enjoyed dinner underneath the wings of the iconic aircraft. The evening was hosted by Sean McGreevy from Boundless with three former Concorde pilots (Christopher Orlebar, John Tye and John Eames) as guest speakers during the event.

The pilots were members of a very exclusive flying club and took part in a Q&A session about their time at the controls of the Mach 2-capable jet. John flew Concorde from 1997 until 2001 whilst Christopher first flew the aircraft in 1976. Since retiring from British Airways in 2000, Christopher has been involved in writing, lectures and TV work about the history of the supersonic jet including his book, The Concorde Story.

Aerospace Bristol opened this summer and houses the final Concorde to be built and last to fly. The supersonic jet was originally designed, tested and manufactured in Bristol.

For those looking for a similar experience, Boundless is hosting a gala evening in the company of ex-Flight Commander and Tornado pilot Michael Napier to celebrate 100 years of the RAF next July. The event will take place at the RAF Museum in London and include a private viewing of the museum and admission to the new Centenary Wing ahead of the exhibition opening in July 2018, plus a two-course evening dinner underneath the Short Sunderland.
