June 11: A US museum has won an air force award for one of its exhibits. The Museum of Aviation at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia has won the 2010 US Air Force Heritage Award for its ‘Ambassadors in Blue’ exhibit representing the US Air Force Thunderbirds Demonstration team.

The exhibit sponsored opened in May 2009 and displays an F-16A Fighting Falcon that flew with the team between 1982 and 1991. The award was presented by C R Anderegg, the director of Air Force History and Museums Programs and Policies, who recognised "the hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence" shown by the exhibits team at the museum.

The F-16 was acquired by the museum in February 2008 from Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas where it had been used as a maintenance trainer. The Air Force Association donated more than $17,700 for the paint to put it back in its original paint scheme.
